So I started my Tivo wireless upgrade last night. I wish I could say that I finished it, but there is still one more problem to solve. But here is what I did:
1. Install, configure and upgrade firmware on compatible PCMCIA wireless card.
2. Install Tivo hard drive into computer and run the flash update.
3. RE-install Tivo drive back into Tivo, and witness the flash upgrade success. - So far so good.
4. Install Tivo hard drive back into computer.
5. Install Turbo AirNet card in Tivo unit.
6. Run airnet driver installer on computer to install on Tivo drive. - Again, so far so good.
7. Re-install the Tivo drive back into the Tivo unit along with the AirNet card and Wireless PCMCIA card.
8. Plug the Tivo unit back into the TV and make sure I haven't blown the whole thing up.
At this point everything should have been working. I changed the dailing prefix for updates, tried to make a daily call, and tried to ping/telnet into the Tivo from the network, but alas nothing there. Based on the blinking of the wireless card, it looks as though it simply does not have a signal. I brought my laptop over with a different wireless card and it didn't have any problem getting a signal.
Anyway, I knew this might be a problem, they warned about it on the website. I'm hoping that repositioning the wireless router will solve the problem. But for now, at least the Tivo is no worse off than it was before.
More later.
