Nothing witty or frilly here. I need a trailer hitch for our Honda Pilot so the first source was of course the Honda dealer. $500 for the hitch and installation. First thought was that that sounded a bit high, but not crazy. Decided to do a bit more searching online to see what else was available and low and behold we find hitch-web.com which happens to be located in reality in Van Nuys CA. Turns out they have many flavors of OEM style hitches (basically the exact same hitch the dealership would put on) for less than half the price. I know what you're thinking, "but you have to install it, and you are not a mechanic." Well I read the instructions and the installation amounts to screwing in about 6 bolts - that's it. No drilling, no dismantling, nothing. The price was soo good ($209 including shipping) that I got the 4 bike rack from the same place (the reason I wanted the hitch in the first place).
Lesson #1: Dealerships are there to always rip you off.
Lesson #2: It's always cheaper on the Internet.
